Partners in Progress works with rural-based organisations in Haiti to strengthen local cultural, social and environmental assets for building sustainable communities. The charity focuses on elevating education, promoting food sovereignty, and building equitable community. PIP’s approach emphasises community-driven solutions to local problems.
Recently, Haiti suffered its first Covid-19 deaths. Partners in Progress is working with community groups in Deslandes, Fondwa, and Savanette Cabral to combat the impact of the Coronavirus. The need is great, as John’s Hopkins ranks Haiti 139th (out of 195 countries) most vulnerable to global pandemics. Local organisations have established educational centers to promote social distancing, hand washing, and effective methods of sanitation. Masks are being produced. And, locally-produced foods are being distributed to help boost immune systems.
Mullaney’s Harp and Fiddle is proud of its long-standing association with Partners in Progress. Prior to her death in 2011, Anne Mullaney launched a fund-raising campaign aiming to build a local school and community center. Sadly, Anne passed away prior to the project’s completion, but the “Friends of Anne” group ensured her commitment was fulfilled. Now, Anne and Brian’s nephew John Kearney is President of PIP’s Board of Directors. Their sister Kathleen and her husband Pat are also Trustees. Shannon Boyle Kearney — the pub’s Head of Marketing (and John’s wife) — is PIP’s Development and Outreach Coordinator.
